Screencast o Matic is a screen recording and video editing software which can be launched directly from a browser. I came to know about this software during my course in Educational Technology.
Screencast O Matic is a resourceful tool for the education sector. This software came into existence in 2006 and since then it has acted as a very useful tool for a lot of purposes. It can be used for flipped classrooms, creating online tutorials on various educational platforms online, bi-directional student assessments, lecture capture, and student video assignments. Apart from that, it can also be used for various tasks including creating a video tutorial, transforming a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation into a video with narration, creating a video game walkthrough and showing a technician a computer error.

By learning about this tool and using it for creating a video assignment I came to know about the
usefulness of it and it also gave me empowerment and ideas to create my own lectures and tutorials for platforms like Udemy. It is very easy to download on web browsers like Chrome or Firefox and launch it.

The best thing about this Saas licensed software is that it has a user-friendly interface and can be
operated without much hassle. Screen Cast O Matic can be used on operating systems namely,
Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Chrome OS. Moreover, it is available in six languages English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Users can adjust the size of the screen recording to any area displayed on the screen or use preset resolutions provided in the recorder.

It has a free and a paid version. If you use a paid version, it removes the watermark and allows
additional upload options to publish videos to Google Drive, Dropbox and Vimeo. Paid Version of
Screencast o Matic includes a script tool allowing the user to read while recording, has speech-to-text
captioning, drawing tools and the ability to highlight an area of the screencast. It also provides video
editor that enables the ability to edit the audio and video sections of a screencast. Other Video editing
tools include the ability to cut, crop, resize, hide the cursor or webcam, narrate, insert multimedia
(video, images, and text), replace sections of the video, control the speed (up or down), add transitions, and music. It also allows the user to edit audio tracks, which is awesome. While, the free version allows you to record and capture your screen up to 15 minutes and help save screencasts to a video file on your computer, upload and publish to YouTube and Screencast-O-Matic.com. Hosting service is available for both free and paid versions of Screencast O Matic and are built on top of Amazon Web Services (AWS).

I would highly recommend teachers to use this software in their classrooms and on online teaching
platforms to create videos for students and to integrate it in blended learning and flipped the 21st Century classrooms.
